A visit to the swamp

Yesterday was an unseasonably warm day so after church we decided to take a little drive up the Natchez Trace Parkway. Even though it was very cloudy and gray I enjoyed it much. We drove to this swampy area and decided to take a casual walk. There is a nice little walking path around the whole swamp that we enjoyed. We were hoping to see a gator or two but we saw very little wildlife. We did manage to see lots of green though. Imagine that! Green in a swamp! When I was younger I use to think this was just so gross but now I think it is beautiful. It was very quiet(except for a passing vehicle) and peaceful. There were a few birdies singing but we couldn't see any.I like the way this greeny growth climbs up the trees.Examining it closely it looks like some type of fern but something tells me that's probably not what it is.

Well I hope you enjoyed this little "walk". Here's hoping you find beauty in whatever you set out to do today.

Once again, you show the beauty in what is normally thought of as desolate and stark.
I'm sooooo longing for the warmer days up here, so I can enjoy little walks myself. In the meantime, I'll enjoy yours.

it is so nice to get those ocassional warm days in the midst of winter. i need my outdoor time and am glad you got some too.
isn't is funny how our perspectives change over the years. God is patient with us like that.

Beautiful pictures Susie. Hopefully this means that your rest did your leg some good and you are on the mend.

flydragon-I'm glad you enjoyed "our" walk. Hopefully we'll have some more warm weather and "we'll" go again!

Marmee-I know exactly what you mean. Gotta have that time to enjoy the outdoors. I love how God has changed much about the way I view things. Have a great day!

Mildred-I surely hope so. I'm anxious to really test it out but I have another week of rest. Please pray that the pain doesn't come back when I start exercising again. Thanks and I hope you enjoy your day!

Thanks for taking us on the walk. I'll bet it smelled divine this time of year - alll earthy and crisp.

I am going to go out on a limb here, your leg is much better, right? Prayerfully so. I took our 14 year old to the Doctor this morning, she has walking pneumonia, now that's a way to extend your winter holiday isn't it? Love the walk through the swamp, funny how our ideas of beauty change as we do.

Melissa-It did smell so wonderful and earthy. It smells even better in the summer when it is a little "heated" up.

Darla-Yes my leg is much better, thank you. But my walk yesterday was just a very casual walk, no exercise whatsoever! Bless you little one's heart, walking pneumonia!?!? I will pray that she gets well soon.

Thanks for all the 'green'! things are all bare and brown here now.
Glad to hear you were up to a walk.

Neat swamp! We're usually wet, mucky and swampy in our area for most of the year and long for some dryness ( at least I do ) but we don't have swamps like yours! And definitely no alligators unless one escaped from the zoo!

Good idea, I always struggle with what to do afer church unless it's warm and I can work in the yard. Do gators hibernate in the winter?

Hey sissy;

Thanks for taking us on the walk today.....sure with we could have seen an alligator though.

I'm in Dallas with Casey tonight....couldn't get home because of the ice - ice baby!

Love your new background. I need to change mine.

Talk to ya tomorrow!!!

Luv ya....bj

Thanks Jen-I'm glad you enjoyed the "green". Mostly everything else around here is brown too. So I have to find a bright spot where I can.

A.Joy-Usually our "swampy areas" are pretty much contained in their areas. Regarding the gators, they have two times a year here where people are allowed to hunt them.

Meadowview-My hubbie says he doesn't think they hibernate but he isn't real sure.

Bec-So I guess you be coming home tomorrow? Be careful! Love ya lots!

What a nice place to take a walk. I guess you are feeling better now then. :)

It's gotten COLD here! I like those warmer days better.

You got some good pictures. I didn't realize a swamp could be pretty.

Susie, so glad you felt like getting out for a leisurely walk. How is the no excercise going? That green on the tree is very interesting-would be neat to know what it is. Sorry you didn't see much wildlife. Maybe next time as I would think the swamp woud be a great place to see it.

A beautiful place to visit! No swamps here, so I appreciated your taking us along on this walk. I'm not so sure I would have wanted to see an alligator while walking, though:)

George-It is a good place to walk and it's only about 10 minutes from our home which makes it really inviting.

Racquel-We really enjoyed our walk. I love to find little places like this to explore. My leg is doing much better(no pain at the moment). I'm just concerned what will happen when I start exercise again.

Jacquie-Sorry you are back into the "cold" again. I guess that is to be expected. Swamp and beauty didn't use to fit into the same sentence for me. I'm glad now they do.

Beckie-The no exercise is tough especially with this warm spell we've been having. I have been able to piddle in the yard some. That's helpful.

Rose-I'm glad you enjoyed the "swamp" tour. We didn't want to see a gator up close and personal. Long range would have worked just fine!

Beautiful. :) This reminds me SO much of a lake in So. IL where I grew up. We used to navigate around the lake in small john boats. Look out for snakes though! Good times.

Thanks!

Hi Susie. Nice little excursion. I used to see the ferns growing on the trees like that when I lived in Florida. That, and Spanish Moss hanging from the branches.
Great pics. Glad you had a good time.
Take care and have a great week.

That was fun! I enjoyed sharing the walk with you, Susie! I've never walked through a swamp area before. Thanks! Have a great day! :D

G4L-I'm glad you enjoyed the swamp pictures. I'm glad we didn't see any snakes. I had rather see a gator than a snake anytime.

Lisa-It was a good day for a little walk. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

Daisy-I wish you could smell the earthiness of it. It's wonderful. Sometimes the whole surface of the water can be solid green. It looks so thick like you could walk on it.

Susie,

You guessed right, that is a type of fern on the tree. It is known here as resurrection fern. It will curl up and turn brown, look dead, until rain comes and then it will unfurl and turn a beautiful green like is seen on the tree in your photo. It is actually a tree fungus but it is very pretty. We have it on several trees here, including the one right outside my dining nook window. I imagine that it might stay green in that area because there is a lot of water.

Susie said...

Sandy-Some of the trees had it growing all the way to the top of them. It was really pretty to see.

Happy New Year Susie! Enjoyed my walk with you. It's always good to see photos of places that look so different from what we see here. Will be back again to catch up on your earlier posts.

Kanak-I'm glad you enjoyed the walk and I'm very glad to hear from you. Hope your visit with your sister was great!
