A Nice Day

Yesterday it rained so I didn't have to work. So I had a free day with anything I wanted to do. What did I chose? I decided to go to the park and see if I could photograph some baby ducks that I saw there the other day. I had a couple of pieces of stale bread that I decided to take with me.It took me a minute to find them and when I did, I discovered she was sitting on them. See those little yellow fluff-balls? Can you say, oh my goodness?!?!? Momma didn't seem to be in any hurry about moving so I was glad I had brought the bread. After I threw her a couple of pieces those golden fleeces were revealed. Can you see the one sticking out it's little flipper? Is that not the cutest!!?!?!?It's okay, say it with me. Oh my goodness!!! Can I tell you how bad I wanted to pick up one of these little fuzz balls? I had one of these when I was a little girl. They are undoubtedly the softest little creatures.Momma was real nice to let me take pictures. She didn't seem annoyed or anything. This little one was watching momma the whole time. Is this not sweet? Who doesn't love baby ducks? After a few minutes I decided to leave them be and walked on around the pond til I found these guys.
These two weren't as shy as momma and the babies. I think they saw I had bread. The one with the red all over his face wasn't shy at all. I decided to see if he would take bread from my hand. He had no problem doing that. He did it really fast and I could tell his bill was so strong. I thought how bad that would hurt if he had gotten my fingers.Up close and personal. See the end of his bill. Yowsers! I bet that would hurt.As I was leaving the park I couldn't help but notice the azaleas in bloom. And this vine was growing on an arbor. Don't know what it is but I thought it was pretty. After I left the park I decided to whip it into Quiznos to pick up some lunch. I thought about going back to the park to eat but decided to drive out to the reservoir. As you can see it was a very gray day, but for me it was beautiful.

And bye the way if you ever eat at Quiznos try their broccoli/cheese soup. It was delish!

Oh, aren't they precious! Hope they grow up a bit before cold weather hits, though! It's a bit late for baby ducks!

Rain Rain everywhere, Susie.... We had 3 inches here the past three days--when we were in GA (where it was raining also)... Now--it's going to get COLD.... Geessshhhh...

Love your sweet little ducks. They are absolutely precious.

Thanks for the heads-up on Quiznos.. We have one here and I've never been there. That soup sounds great.

Susie, what a delightful post! I LOVED the little ducklings...so cute! Must've been fun photographing/observing them. Both blooms are really pretty. And I like the last shot too despite the sky being so gray. Sometimes, cloudy skies have a magical effect.

I had to re-read your post to make sure you hadn't posted a spring time post. Baby ducks and azaleas? You must live in Paradise! But those Muscovy ducks are pretty keen on incubating and hatching eggs. Hope the fall and winter are not too hard on the ducklings.Beautiful pictures.

Nice park to spend a bit of time.

Looks like you really enjoyed your day off, Susie! The baby ducks are so, so cute; it must have been hard resisting the urge to pick them up and stroke them. It's cold and rainy here--again--I only venture outside when I have to:)

Hi Susie, just goes to show, even a dreary, rainy day can be a good thing. Those ducklings are cute. Makes my fingers twitch just wanting to touch them;)

Weather here is perfect for ducks. Rain, rain every day.

Love the dreary day picture with the trees! Very peaceful. What are baby ducks doing hatching this time of year? Will they make it through the winter?

Those babies are adorable! Kinda makes me not want to eat those little yellow marshmallow candy ducks (Peeps) you get for Easter. (Or are they baby chicks?)

The ducklings are certainly cute. I can understand why you wanted to take one with you, but I'm sure the Mama was glad you didn't take one.

What a sweet duck family;-) I had a baby duck when I was very young--about 3 or 4. My dad was raising it--and some chickens--for, you know, dinner! We have photos of him following me everywhere I went around the yard. So cute! One day I guess he was dinner (!) and that was the end of that;-( How sad:-( It's interesting to see azaleas blooming at this time of year! Here, they bloom in the spring only! We had days and days of rain here, too. And COLD...no higher than low 40's. But today, it's sunny and getting up to 68--70...for the rest of the week! Should give me time to put in the plants that I never got in the ground this summer!

Nope, not me, I hate baby ducks. Had ya goin' there for a minute eh? You're right, who can resist a baby duck. They are so cuddly and comical, even old ducks, they are just too fun to have around.

I never did see that you said it, you have Muscovy ducks here. I love photographing them, because they aren't shy at all. I have often wondered what they looked like as little ones. You captured them so well.
