Turkey day apparel.......

With Thanksgiving fast approaching I thought it appropriate to show you a couple of my favorite aprons. As a matter of fact they are my only aprons. This first one was made by my wonderful Aunt Lucy. It's a little blue check with jars of jellys and jars of peaches. She gave this to me while we lived in Georgia. She thought it appropriate since Georgia is the Peach state. Aunt Lucy is always thoughtful like that. This next one was made by my grandmother many years ago. It actually belonged to her and my mother gave it to me after grandma passed on. You can tell how old it is because the material is very soft and faded.

I love both these aprons much because they were both made by exceptional, loving women. Which one will I wear while cooking for turkey day?Not sure but which ever it is I will definitely feel I'm wrapped up in love.

Do you have a favorite you wear for the holidays?

I think you should wear Grandma/Mamma's! I love the one Aunt Lucy made you too, but I still vote for G/M's. Mom and I have been running around all day and I am totally exhausted!!! Luv you sissy girl!

It would be hard for me to choose - maybe one for the meal and one for dessert! Be sure to have someone take a picture of you wearing the aprons. What I wouldn't give for a photo of my mom, grandma and dad wearing one of their aprons at those long ago Thanksgiving dinners! Blessings to you tonight!

Hi Susie,
I really like your aprons! I had a dear Aunt Lucy, too! I like the one that's blue checked with peaches. I used to have several cute aprons that my sweet mother-in-law gave me, but after two moves, I have no idea where they are.

Sis-So ya'll been out running up and downs the roads today? You better get some rest. Glad you are feeling better.

Mildred-I like your idea. One for dessert and one for the meal. That's cute. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dorothy-Aren't Aunt Lucy's great? Mine is very special. She did so much for us when we were growing up.

Susie, I'm ashamed to say I don't even own an apron anymore! Seeing yours brings back so many memories, though. My grandma used to wear the full length aprons all the time, while my mother favored the half-aprons like your Grandma's. I remember when, if you were asked to help serve the cake or punch at a wedding you were given a gift of a lacy apron. My mother used to have so many of those.
I'm not sure I'd wear either of those on Thanksgiving, Susie; they're heirlooms!

Susie, lovely aprons and lovlier still the memoris they hold for you. I tend to agree with Rose, but maybe you could display them on Thanksgiving. Either way, you will know you are carrying on great traditions.

Thanks Kanak-I appreciate your sweet comments.

Rose-When I was growing up I remember grandma and mom wearing aprons a good bit. Funny how that habit seems to have gotten lost with progression of time. I'm glad I helped bring up some sweet memories for you.

Beckie-Isn't it funny how some patches of material sewn together can bring a smile to your face? If I didn't wear them I could display them. Thanks.

Lovely aprons - with even more meaning because they were handmade for you! :) Ithink I would have to wear the longer one, because I am rather a slob when I cook a big meal!

What lovely mementos from two special women in your life Susie. Do you display them in your kitchen?

I want an apron! Those are precious, what wonderful memories attached to them, I would have to wear both!

Terri-I think I have the honor of wearing the crown for "Sloppiest in the Kitchen". Thanks for visiting my blog.

Racquel-Seeing your comment gives me hope you are feeling better! I do not display my aprons in the kitchen. That is a great idea though. Unfortunately they lay folded in the closet until the holidays when I pull them out to use.

Darla-Maybe I should wear one early in the a.m. and one right before dinner is served. I don't know but thanks for your suggestion.

I'm afraid my apron consists of a kitchen towel tucked into my waistband. So chic!!

I like to cook in one and clean in another. It is so nice to reach down and have something soft to dry your hand on while cleaning up. I don't worry too much about getting on stained or anything. Those are just more memories!

Enjoy your aprons. I'll be donning mine soon. I love your grandma's!! I might be a bit jealous.

Now I have to go through my apron collection and pick which ones to wear.

flydragon-I guess it's better than wiping or drying your hands on your clothes, right?

Kara-As creative as you are you could make yourself one just like my grandmas. Maybe you could show us what your aprons look like!

I love both of these aprons. I would probably wear the one from Aunt Lucy while cooking because it provides more coverage and I'm messy when I cook. HA HA! Maybe wear the smaller one when serving dessert like Mildred suggested. Both are treasures for sure. :D

Daisy-I'm a messy cook as well. Thanks for your suggestions.

How sweet that you have those aprons. My mother always used to cook in an apron... she dropped the habit some years back. I'm not sure why.

I would need to be somewhat of a cook before needing an apron. Ha!

very cool i would wear one for cooking and the other for the cleanup that way you can have both on for part of the day.

Susie, I love the aprons! I have a confession to make, I don't own an apron and they are so "in" right now. Well, I do own two aprons but they are child size. One was made for me by my grandmother when I was little and the other was a sewing project my Aunt Katie helped me make one summer. I love them both dearly but I think the fit is a bit off! I think I need to start my own apron tradition and make myself one.
