A Little Treat

I don't know about ya'll but sometimes you just have to reward yourself for all your hard gardening work. One way I like to treat myself is to breakfast. It's actually my favorite meal of the day. Now I'm not endorsing McDonald's by any means but recently I had a couple of free coupons for their new oatmeal. Can I just say it's delish!!! It has chunks of apples, dried cranberries along with black and gold raisins. I do like to add a little butter to it but other than that it's really good. And of course with free coupons it's hard to beat. Now what goes great with it?!?!? Why their coffee of course. If you have never tried it, give it a whirl. Yummy! Now on to more important matters. No, I didn't buy this blueberry bush at McDonald's. I got three of them, two varieties and they are all looking good. But I would like to know if someone can tell me when blueberries produce? Is it true they need to be fertilized as long as they are leafing? Any hints would be great. Thanks ya'll. Have a great weekend!

Will pooh, I had a couple of those coupons and gave them to my DIL. Don't know if she ever used them or not.
We have a couple of Blue Berry bushes, but bless their hearts they have been on their own for about 10 yrs. We started getting a few blueberries off them 2 yrs ago..course we have to fight the birds for them.
Hope some one can help you.

So happy to see you hear!!! I love their coffee too. Blueberries come right after the blooms..my blooms are beginning to open now..not necessary to fertilize them at all. Mine get MG when I just happen to spray it that way...you do need more than one for cross pollination though. I see you have three, good girl..now get those babies in the gound!

I'm glad to know about that oatmeal.

Mine are budding and blooming now. Seems like the fruit should be ready in June. Bad memory though.....

I tried their oatmeal too. I thought it was really good! Good luck with your blueberries. I'm afraid I don't know how to grow them, so I don't have any advice for you on that. Have a good weekend, Susie! :)

Hi Susie, I have not tried the McD's oatmeal but I will now! I know they have delish coffee. I also adore their mocha frappe!

I'ven never grown blueberries but John worked with a lady who had a yard full. Every year around July 4th we would be invited to pick all we wanted. One of my favorite recipes is lemon muffins with blueberries!

Wishing you a nice weekend. Today was pretty but a little cool/breezy.

I'm not much of a breakfast person, but all the ads I've seen for McDonald's new oatmeal do look tantalizing, and I would definitely prefer this to an Egg McMuffin:) But I totally agree on McD's coffee--it's the best around! (And much cheaper than Starbucks!)

I don't know much about growing blueberries other than they like acidic soil. But I'm sure you can find some excellent tips online. What I didn't know until last year is that blueberry bushes have gorgeous foliage in the fall--they're beautiful to look at as well as producing delicious fruit.

I'm sorry that I can't help you with your question about blueberries. All I know is that I like them and when we lived in the mountains of western North Carolina we could find them growing wild and get some delicious berries in early summer.
I'm glad you enjoyed your McDonald's treat.

Well up here in the PNW they ripen about July but in the mountains in September, so I wonder if down where you are at they are a bit earlier than ours? June strawberries, July raspberries and blues.

Careful on that fertilizer and make sure its acidic. They really like mulchy soil - forest floor like.

We have a place called Jamba Juice up here, smoothies. Bet and I got rather attached to their oatmeal - they use steel cut. Even made us go get our own steel cut instead of rolled and stock up on dried berries, cherries and nuts just for the top of our oats in the morning (a bit of a drive for us to go get Jamba Oats all the time).

I love oatmeal and wondered if McD's would be any good. With cranberries how could it not be! :)
Blueberries (I think) produce in summer...July maybe. But, I don't think they produce fruit right away. I think it may take a year or two---someone else may know for sure.

That is a sweet reward! I eat oatmeal for snacks....especially at night. Good tasty stuff.
I have never grown blueberries...wish I could help out.

Glad I read this! We're making the 2 day drive to CA next month and my husband was trying to figure out where to find Starbucks along the way. I told him - there's always McDonalds for coffee! We sure hope to get some blueberries off our bushes some year soon! So far the wild rabbits keep pruning them for us.
