Vacation-visiting down under

No, not Australia, even tho I would love to go there.I'm talking about visiting Blanchard Springs Caverns in northern Arkansas. What's that? You've never heard of it before. That's not surprising. We were told they don't have an advertising budget so I'm advertising for them.We visited here when I was a teenager. I'm glad I had the opportunity to come back.

We went down over 250 feet to a wonderful cool, constant 57 degrees. This felt wonderful considering it was 96 plus degrees above. They have two, actually three tours you can take. This one is about an hour long. We saw all kinds of stalactites and stalagmites. There were also a few bats flying around.Afterward we drove down to where the actual springs flows from the cave. The actual springs. They were so pretty and so loud. Hard to believe so many years ago the caverns were filled with water. This is Sylamore creek. I also visited here as a child. The water is crystal clear and cold as ice. We didn't venture in even tho it was so hot outside.

Hope you enjoyed the tour. If you ever find yourself in northern Arkansas, check it out. Tickets were only 10.00 which we thought was well worth it.

Susie you did a great job with your advertisment for Blanchard Springs. We've been near there but decided not to go 'down under'! Beautiful pictures!

I have driven through Arkansas ONCE many years ago. I wish we could have stopped at these cool caves. All I remember were the vasta amounts of Walmart trucks everywhere. :0

A cave seems like a good place to visit in the summer. Nice and refreshing!

Very intersting....my family took us to Mammoth Cave when I was a child....and we took our kids when they were little. It's all very interesting.

We usually get to Arkansas about once a year, but not to northern Arkansas. I'm not sure where Blanchard Springs Cavern is located, but it certainly looks worth a visit. You've done a fine job of advertising for them -- your pictures are wonderful.

Susie--guess what?? I have been there! Many, many years ago we took a trip there one summer and camped. We swam in the river and toured the caverns--I think I still have a picture or two. Haven't thought about this place in a long time....good memories! Glad you had fun!

HI Susie, I have been in that area of Arkansas a little -before I met George. We used to vacation at Fairfield Bay (not far from Clinton)... I've been by Blanchard Springs Caverns--but have never been in them... Looks like I need to take George UP that way when we visit Arkansas. We love Arkansas --and I'd live there in a heartbeat---at least on Mt. Nebo!!!!!

Thanks for the gorgeous pictures... I love the cave--but I also love seeing the springs. Amazing!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Wow, Susie! Thanks for taking us on this magical tour! I've never been inside a cave...not anything like this. The water looks very tempting. Loved the photo of the spring gushing out of the cave!

Have a great week!

I visited a cavern when I was young, don't think I could do it now, a little on the claustrophic side in my older age. It beautiful Susie, thanks for taking us along...that water does look inviting.

Great pictures Susie.
We use to do a lot of spelunking - a great way to cool off in the hot summer months.

Hi Susie! This looks like a wonderful place to visit. I bet it was pretty down in the caves. Isn't it amazing how so much beauty can be underground that we never see or think of? Great pictures!

This looks so pretty, Susie! I've never heard of Blanchard Springs Caverns, but I have been to Meramac Caverns in Missouri. Such an interesting sight, knowing all these cool formations are millions of years old. This is the perfect way to vacation in this heat!

Hi Susie, I love caves. There aren't many in this area, a few in Wisconsin. Your Blanchard Springs Caverns are awesome! I could spend an entire day or maybe a week in that one room studying those formations.

Susie, I really did think when I read the title I would find you in Australia! But you really were down UNDER, and it is beautiful. The creek looks inviting. I did enjoy the tour, thanks!

How fun! Like the photo of you by the river! I have been in caves just like that and they were in Australia. It was pretty amazing. Those minerals sure can build up! Or down I guess.

Very pretty. Think it is neat that the water is coming out too. Next time you are up this way, Sweetwater has the Lost Sea. Similiar but the water is inside, hence, the Lost Sea. During the drought a few years back they almost did loose it, but the last 2 years the water level is back up. I visited it as a child, but have been back as an adult a couple of times.

Caves are so cool! Literally! We ventured down into one at Cave City, Kentucky a few years ago.

And those kids behind you in that photo don't seem to mind the cold creek water!

Those caves look wonderful to tour - thats the kind of place I would love to bring my boys to.

Many years ago when we just had one little one we were touring the caves in Fermanagh in NIreland and the tour guide started talking about the millions of years that it took to make all of this......... well he got much more than he bargained for when my husband starting telling him about the earth being a young earth.

I enjoyed your cave and water photos. My parents lived in Bella Vista Arkansas for awhile. We saw caves around, but never went in one, except for the one in Silver Dollar City. Is that one near Bella Vista, which is in the northwest part of the state?
