Bird Babies

Recently I told you about us having 5 new bluebird babies in the nest. The other day my hubbie checked and they had hatched. Well the parents have been feeding like crazy and the babies are now looking out the box hole. Yesterday I decided to open the box and stick the camera in to see how they look.
As you can see they look like one big mass of blue feathers. I expect them to leave sometime this weekend. That always makes me sad but I'm happy to know we have help increase the bluebird population by 10 in the last couple of months. Hooray!I think I mentioned(not sure) having a Killdeer at work sitting on a nest of 4 pretty little eggs. I decided to take my camera and get a picture of her/him. She has been on them for what seems like forever so after researching I discovered their eggs hatch within 3-4 weeks. So I am so glad I had my camera today because.......We have our first baby today. It's so cute and blends right in with it's environment. Here's another pic. Mom/dad wasn't squawking but she looks like she was getting ready to. So hopefully tomorrow we will have another baby or two.

Oh Susie, You are so lucky---to see not only the Bluebird babies --but also the little Kildeer baby. I enlarged the pictures to see them better. Hope you keep checking on the Kildeer --to see the other eggs hatch... How SPECIAL... I'm envious.

Oh my gosh! So cute! I don't think I've ever seen a baby Killdeer before. I've never seen an adult one up that close before either. Great pictures, Susie. It will be fun to watch them, I'm sure.

I had to zoom in to see the little newborn!!! That is amazing!!! So camouflaged. I didn't realize some birds don't make nests.

Loved this post, Susie!!

These are fantastic photos, Susie! I can't get a decent photo of a full grown bird, much less its babies:) I hope they all make it safely to a new home after they leave their nests.

Great baby pictures.

The momma didn't try to lure you from the nest?

Have a good weekend.

Hi Susie. Congratulations on helping all those bluebirds.

Those killdeer eggs look so exposed even tho they do have good camouflage. Hope they all hatch and survive.

I have a killdeer nesting along the roadside where the county mows. Poor choice of sites.

The killdeer is new to me, what a pretty bird. Eggs on the rocks?? That's really strange!
Congrats on all your bluebirds! My box is empty now and hoping for a second brood.

What great pictures!! The Killdeer eggs are really pretty. I love how she's straddling the eggs like she doesn't want to step on them.

You got good pictures of both the bluebird babies and the killdeer baby. I hope you'll be able to get more pictures of both broods.

Congratulations on your new babies. I enlarged the last photo to see the little one better.

What an awesome experience to be able to see God's critters up close and personal like that!

We have Killdeer but I have never been fortunate enough to get to see one of the babies. It looks like the egg sitting there. Thank you so much for sharing these photos, and pointing out the baby was there. I would have totally missed that.

Baby birds are so ugly! I even think human newborns are ugly, mine included! Bless their hearts. Thank goodness babies get prettier as they get older!

Your header is gorgeous!! And I'd never heard of Killdeer before you included its picture some time ago. The stripes remind me of a woodpecker. Your bird pictures are fascinating. I'd feel good too if I/my yard could contribute to the bird population.

Great bird shots!!! Did you use a zoom in the Killdeer? I remember last year at the beach there were a lot of them nesting. Anytime we got close, they would act like their wing was hurt, and run the opposite direction making a terrible noise!

Hi Susie! I've never seen a killdeer before. What a nice outfit! Your post reminded me about a little nest in my ivy planter which I discovered yesterday. Four little eggs and no parents around. That first picture of yours is priceless: they look like little human babies cuddling together! Have a great week!

Susie, such beautiful captures. The Killdeer is new for me - a most unusual looking bird and with lovely eggs. By the way, we could use a couple of those bluebirds. ;)

Lovely little birds! I just did a similar post on some baby birds I found when I almost cut down a little shrub!
