Saturday Scenes

Evening everyone! I hope y'all had a great Saturday. Today we had lots of hot sunshine and high 80's. Glad I had applied sunblock. This is what went on in my world today.Off to Mississippi college(Clinton, MS) we went for the State Track meet. Sorry for the blurb but I took this pic thru the windshield. You can use your imagination to figure out what that is! Luckily we didn't have to be there until 11:30 but was it ever hot already. We only had a few girls to qualify for this meet. One of them brought home 3 medals. Not too bad, huh?!?!?Before we left this a.m. I managed to check out the beds/garden. Here's the three little pots I showed a couple posts back. As you can see they are filling in nicely. I'm enjoying this red beauty. This morning she had several blooms. These snapdragons are still putting on a show. These two guys were waiting on breakfast. They were both in the corner section of the fence and had built their webs on top of each other. I love organic pest control!I knew there had been lots of excitement around the blue bird house yesterday morning so I decided to take a peak. Are these little fuzz balls the funniest looking little things. I think they were definitely born yesterday. I'm curious if that one egg you see hatched. I may have to take another peak in a day or two.And lastly, we gardeners take lots of risks when we are out working in our beds. We can get bit by spiders, bugs, wasps, bees, or cut our fingers/hands or possibly step on ends of hoes and whop ourselves in the head. So see that lovely red spot on my neck, it's a dad-gum wasp sting. But guess what? It didn't happen gardening. It happened while I was riding my bike. Darn old wasp flew right into my neck while I was enjoying my ride and just to be mean he stung the pooh out of me. Let me tell you it didn't feel none too good either. No wonder I can't stand those sorry boogers!!!

Oh well, I hope you all had a wonderful Saturday. I did.

Hi Susie, Your sister and I have been having rain!!! Your flowers are beautiful and those birds are so sweet! Oh, that wasp sting looks so painful. My sister and I talked last night by phone and were still talking about the beautiful wreath you made at work!

Sounds like a nice day, except for the wasp sting. That's great the girls did well at the meet. I love the red flower. Is it a hibiscus?
Those birds are so tiny. How can you see in? I always wish I knew what was going on inside the birdhouses in our yard.

Ouch! Sorry you got stung! I really like your fence flower pots!
So colorful. . .

Mildred that is so sweet! I like doing those wreaths. They usually sell pretty quickly. I did talk to Bec today, she wasn't feeling the "love" of the rain. She's a sunshine person for sure!

I love it we have the same flower blooming...mine also blooms yellow flowers too...

Susie said...

Catherine it is a hibiscus. I love those flowers. Unfortunately or maybe not you'll see more blooms of the others I have too! Regarding the birds I knew the momma bird was gone so I opened the front of the box and just stuck my camera in and snapped a couple, this was the best.

Deb said...

I've never had a hibiscus before..but half of the plant has red and half has yellow...the base is twisted so maybe it is 2 plants put together..I got it for my birthday in March...it is really doing well

Those birds are a sight to see, aren't they???

Sorry about your wasp sting, I can sympathize. You read about my finger sting, but a few years back I got stung right on the "goozle" when a wasp/bee/hornet/something flew right into me too.

Have a great Sunday!

Ow! Sorry you got bit by a wasp. I hate those things too! Those baby bluebirds are so sweet. Hope you have a nice rest of your weekend. :)

Hey Susie,
Those hanging pots are just looking better and better. I love them! Also love the Hibiscus. I'm determined to buy one of those this year!!
It's been quite a few years since I've been stung by anything. Hope it will be quite a few more without:)

it has been raining nonstop for three days...while you are having a heat wave.
the little bright coloured pots look great...filling in nicely.
bluebirds here have flown their nests and taken up in the martin gourds...wierd eh? pretty soon your little babies will be out flitting around.
sorry bout the sting...it looks like it hurts.

Susie said...

Marmee that wreath can be hung. Lots of people put them on gates and fences. Just remember to take it down to water. That seems to work better!

Susie, sounds like a lovely day. Your flowers are really taking off and I love the buckets on the fence. They provide such a bright spot of color.

Hope your wasp sting gets better fast!

Amazing picture of the newly hatched blue birds...I hope you can show us more pics of their development. Flowers are beautiful--you have a lot going on in the garden right now. YOW! That nasty ole wasp was just plain mean to sting you like that! If he had been watching where he was going he wouldn't have flown into you! Hope it is better soon--that has to be a very painful spot to get a sting.

Wasps! Eek! I've been stung so many times. When I was a kid I was working on a dairy farm where I stirred up a nest of wasps at an old pump. No matter how fast or far I ran they stayed on my face stinging me! I was a mess, it's a wonder they didn't kill me.

Another time one got into my nightgown while hanging out on the clothes line. Later that evening I put that nightgown on and well....you'll just have to guess what happened.;D I don't know what was worse...the sting, or my husband laughing at the situation!

I just love the hanging pots! The baby birds are too sweet.
Don't wasp stings hurt the WORST?!

Nancy Rosalina said...

OOOOH I love those cute hanging pots! Adorable! I have to watch for those wasps and bees...I swell up something terrible if I get stung...and it itches like craaaazy! Take care of that sting! Nancy

Our Saturday was wet!! It rained and stormed all day. I think I need some sun right about now! :)

Debra Howard said...

Next time make you a paste of baking soda and water and apply it. It helps take the sting out because it neutralizes the acidic sting. We are headed to a track meet too very soon. Love your pics.
Debbie

Susie said...

Debbie thanks for the suggestion of the paste for the sting. Yesterday it was itching like crazy. It's much better now.

Susie, glad to know you're feeling better now. Wasp sting can be so painful.

Thank you for sharing what your day was like. Congrats! Three medals1 That's great! Your blooms are gorgeous and those pots look real good!Loved the photo of the newly-hatched birds and the spiders as well.

TC said...

Three medals isn't bad at all Ms. Susie! I like your little pots, I had similar ones a while back but thought they dried out too quick so I don't use them anymore. Love the color on those snapdragons! I'm keeping an eye out for all things buggy here, I'm giving a bug presentation in June and need some good pictures, and will try to capture a few live specimens between now and when I give my talk. While readying my push mower over the weekend, I found a nest up under the cover of the motor, it was a mouse's nest and had four tiny babies in it. I'm so sorry about you being stung, ouch! I'm allergic to bee stings so I have to be very careful when I'm outside during the summer.

Rose said...

First, congratulations on your team winning some medals at state--that's quite an accomplishment! Second, I do hope you're feeling better; a wasp sting on the neck of all places couldn't have felt very good.

Great shots of the spiders and baby birds! I'm surprised you were able to get so close to either of them. Your colorful pots look great on the fence.

Hi Susie, looks like the college may be haunted;)

Your flowers are gorgeous and how exciting to have the bluebird eggs hatch. Hope that sting feels better today. The paper wasps we have up here aren't so aggressive.

Sorry about your wasp bite!

Hope the sting is better by now. Like the way the 3 hanging pots are filling out. They are really going to be pretty in a few weeks.

I was surprised you didn't guess the Red Hot Poker immediately.

Ow! I get the whole fragrant thing with the privet, funny what it turns out that we love. Just talking today to a friend about how I don't think I could do a spring without skunk cabbage in it. I love the spring time fragrance that only the skunk cabbage can deliver.

Susie said...

Lanny-I don't know what skunk cabbage is. I wonder if I know it by another name?
