Happy Easter!!!

I hope everyone is having/had a great Easter! This was always a special holiday for us when I was growing up. We always went to church then we had a big dinner with family. Hunting Easter eggs was fun too but I think dying them was more fun. We always drove mom crazy when it came to dying them. We were always asking her, " are the eggs ready yet"? We hated waiting on that boiling part! We probably ended up with more dye on us than on the eggs.

Today for hubbie and I, we went to the early service at church which was fantastic! Now we are getting ready to head over to hubbie's brother's home for a get together. So far it is beautiful here but we are expecting storms tonight. Since Easter reminds me of flowers or that could be the other way around, I wanted to show a couple of beauties.....This is a new salvia I am planting in the next day or two. It's called Oceana blue. Sorry I don't know the species. We are selling them at work as annuals but the grower told me he thought it might be a perennial. I surely hope so.Here's a close up. It is a true blue color. It's so stunning I just had to have a couple. This caught my eye this morning before going to church. I just planted these Iris' two/three ago and it's blooming. I couldn't believe it. I planted these in my "wet" garden by the birdbath. Here's the close up. A friend/co-worker gave me a few of these from his garden. Aren't friends great?Lastly, this is a picture of my azalea in bloom. I have 4 of these that are just now opening up. I don't know which cultivar this is but it is always the last to bloom.

Happy Easter everyone!

Happy Easter Susie. Your plants are looking so pretty. I love the salvia - such a pretty blue. Have fun at the get-together. Hope your storms won't be bad. Friday night we had tornado warnings most of the evening - lots of rain, hail and wind but no real damage thankfully.

Susie, I love the yellow iris! It just shouts spring. And the true blue salvia is gorgeous. Haven't seen that one yet. Azaleas aren't in bloom here yet so I am enjoying seeing them on several posts. I need to see if my little one survived the winter?? Hope your Easter is wonderful.

Happy Easter!

I love the salvia. I think it will be striking planted with something yellow.
I love when friends share flowers with me. I can walk around my yard and remember where everyone came from. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Deedee!

Mildred-I heard you guys were getting some pretty rough weather. Glad everything is okay.

Thanks Beth Happy Easter to you!

Catherine that salvia is such a striking color. Everyone at the nursery loved it.

Racquel-This bloom is very similar to the black/blue salvia.

Beckie-I hope more of the iris' bloom but since they are so young I don't know if they will or not.

Milah-It is fun to have plants that friends give. The plants are great reminders of friendships.

Dorothy-I'm so glad you are back in blogland.

Happy Easter, Susie. Love seeing your flowers. So beautiful!!!! Our azaleas are not nearly ready to bud... We have two the same hot pink color as yours.

I love Irises also. We have quite a few in our yard--none of which have begun to bud...

Hope you all have a great day today!!

Hugs,

Happy Easter to you too Susie! Your flowers are lovely especially your new addition. I like working blue into my garden to help with the crazy vibrant reds, oranges and tropical corals that I gravitate to! But I need some blue with height, I always appreciate a perennial and this fellow (I just now looked it up because I love your picture of it) most certainly is, for you and I, I am sure, for you must be in zone eight at least? Salvia patens 'Oceana Blue' is hardy to 10 degrees! Good news eh?

Again, I pray that you are blessed with a splendid Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, Susie. Thanks for sharing these beautiful flowers with us, but I must admit that I'm somewhat jealous! You already have iris and azaleas in bloom -- we're still weeks away.

Susie,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter weekend! Yes, the storms reached us early this morning and kept up most of the day. Things have finally settled here.

We had a wonderful family get together yesterday and it was sunny and beautiful. I love all your blooming beauties! I have never had much luck with azaleas, they seem to be quite fussy in their care. Of course it might be the gardener and not the plant ;c)

Have a great week!

Happy Easter to you too, Susie! We had a lovely Easter with family. The grandkids do the same thing-- impatiently waiting for the eggs to be ready to color.

We went to Houston for the weekend, and Saturday went to an Earth Day Festival downtown. They were giving away free plants! Two of the plants we got were the Blue Salvia you posted about! I can't wait to see them bloom.

I absolutely love that shade of blue in 'Oceana Blue.' I've always wanted blue eyes, and if I could make my brown eyes blue, that's the blue color I'd want them to be.

Just Add A Little Water said...

The Oceana Blue salvia is gorgeous. I bought one plant years ago and have been growing it each year since from seeds I collect from the plant and its offspring. In March I put a tablespoon or two of growing medium in a disposable water bottle (the 16 oz. size), water it a bit and add a few of the collected seeds. I let the salvia grow in there until they are about to the top. Then I cut off the bottom and transplant them into the garden. I recommend pinching out the salvia once or twice in the summer to get more blooms and have a bushier plant. Good luck! It's one of my favorite blue finds!
