Garden Visitors

This is the first butterfly I have seen in my garden. He loved the purple verbena.I posted the other day about my little blue bird looking for a Mrs.. Well he may have found her. He's on the left, she's on the right."Look, it's a new home. It's all comfy and just waiting for a family. Check it out."I guess the verdict is still out for now. Hopefully, she approved. At work we had a couple of interesting visitors as well....Say hello to Ms. Rae. Sorry I don't remember why type of animal she is except that she is an exotic. She looks kind of like a cross between an ant eater and a raccoon. She was real sweet. She was fairly heavy when she was on your shoulders. Next say hello to Wilson............This little guy is a kinkajou. He's a marsupial type animal. This is the second or third time Wilson has visited. He is like a little cuddle bunny. However, he does love to hide in your shirt(hence the word marsupial).I would love to post more happenings in my garden however I need a boat to check on it. Well, almost!

Cute animals, how fun to see them while you're working.

Ah, I hope Mr. Bluebird found his Mrs.! Those are some neat looking animals.

I hope you get some dry, sunny weather for the weekend.

How exciting about the bluebirds!!! I have never seen one over here in northeast Jackson, even though we have a ton of birds. Isn't that strange?

Lanny said...

I want a Wilson!!! I'm sure I don't have enough furry little pets, he is too cute! Gotch on the boat thing I'm having Dirt build a dock tomorrow!

Susie said...

Betsy-Well I hope it doesn't completely. I guess it will do whatever the good Lord wants, right?

Catherine-People love to bring their dogs to the nursery and that's always fun but these two take the cake!

Thanks Jacquie-The future Mr/Mrs Bluebirds have already been out there this morning. I don't think she's feeling the love tho.

Your right Beckie-either we have too much or too little. So I don't want to complain about the rain, I just wish I could get out and do some garden work.

Ginger-I bet you have blue birds but just haven't seen them. They are pretty skittish but I get so much enjoyment out of watching them.

Lanny-Do you think Dirt could come to MS and build me one? It's suppose to rain/storm again today.

My phlox doesn't bloom around here till June. When it is in bloom, I get butterflies and hummingbirds in my front garden. I hope your bluebirds make a happy home for you to watch and enjoy.

Cute post! I love all the critters and birds. I had "lakeside" property this last week - It's not fun.

Good to see you have a bluebird pair. That will be fun to watch.

It's been raining here too but there is no standing water on the garden. Good luck with yours, hope it dries out a little soon.

Do you work at a petting zoo?

Maybe you will have baby bluebirds this summer! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Seeing your birdhouse makes me think of an auction that's coming up on April 11.
We have a neighbor who passed away some years ago and his wife in now in the nursing home. Their farm and home furnishings are going to be sold, including 150+ homemade birdhouses. He loved bluebirds and when they were becoming endangered he took it upon himself to make these birdhouses and distribute them around the country. I can't imagine how many he made and gave away. It's my understanding that bluebirds are very particular where they make their nest and the opening of the house has to be smaller than most other bird houses. It is not uncommon to find them nesting in the top of rotten fence post and since farmers are switching from wooden fence post to metal and plastic the bluebirds were becoming endangered. So he made it his mission to help save the bluebirds. Only God knows what a difference he made but from the looks of your two love birds I think there is hope for even more.;D

Hi Susie! I really enjoyed this post. I loved all the photos of the critters. If things don't dry out there soon, maybe you'll be taking pictures of ducks and fish! Hope you get some sunshine soon. :)

Elise-I will look forward to seeing what kind of photos you get.

Deedee-Yes, I believe you had a little bit bigger of a lake than I did.

Marnie-The little female bluebird can't seem to make up her mind if she wants to live here or not.

Milah-That is an interesting story about that sweet little man. I can't believe he made over 150 houses. It seems like a read a story about him or one just like it. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks George-I wish I could capture the pictures from outside. I always seem to be inside when they are out there.

Daisy I love your positive attitude. Maybe I will get some fish and ducks!

Thanks Leedra!

Boat is exactly right! There are flash floods and 3 inches of water standing in my garden beds!

Beautiful bluebirds...how nice that they found each other and a good apartment with a great manager!

Sissy, do you need to borrow our pontoon?

I'm soooo jealous that you got to hold those babies, I want to pet them both. They are too cute. I really should have lived on a farm. I know if I did I would have every animal known to man.

Hope Mr. and Mrs. get together and you have a house full of baby bluebirds!

Beth said...

Susie - I love the new photo on the top of your blog!

Susie said...

Gail-Sorry to hear about your "lake" too! I'm still not sure about the bluebirds. They are out there again this a.m. but she seems to be playing hard-to-get!

Sister-Yes! Weren't Wilson and Ms. Rae cute? Wilson is as soft as can be. His common name is a Honey Bear and I can see why.

Thanks Beth. I took that picture when we were on the MS coast a few weeks back.

TC said...

Yeah, lots of rain here too Ms. Susie. And aren't blue birds absolutely gorgeous?

Jen said...

Hi Susie
love that you have blue birds, I just got a house and hope to have some home owners too. I've not seen any yet, but hope they find me.

Dirt Princess said...

Susie I belive Ms Rae is a chinchilla. A friend of mine in college had one. It was crazy! She paid $1800 for it, if you ask me it looks like a cross between a possum and a coon...I could bread those two and make a killing!! LOL!

The first butterfly of the season is always a welcome site! I hope Mr & Ms Bluebird decide that your new property meets their needs. ;)

Susie said...

TC-They are one of my favorites. When I got home today I checked the box, nothing happening there.

Jen-Hopefully you'll get some new boarders.

Dirt Princess-She did look kind of like a coon/possum mix. Girl, get out the traps!!!

Racquel-Saw another butterfly at work today. It was definitely a Monarch flying around on the butterfly weed.(imagine that)

Gorgeous shot of the butterfly! Love the green color. Apparently the bird housing market is still going okay and Mr. Bluebird has some options to choose from when showing possible mates where they could set up house! What fun visitor to work! Never before seen that first type of animal and our oldest son is an exotic animal nut - wonder if he's read up on that one?

It's still cold up here...glad you have butterflies and flowers! How fun to be 3 hours from the coast...

Hi Susie!

I have missed visiting and need to catch up. What unusual friends you have, cute. I am right there with you on the boat thing, we have had so much rain and they say we are behind in rainfall, how I cannot imagine. I keep thinking that I am going to see and ark float by at any minute. We did have sunshine yesterday but it is so soggy.

Yes, my sweet husband decided to share his flu bug with me. I am on the tail end of it though. I do feel much better and am hoping to get out of the house some today, weather permitting.

I wish you were here to see our world of purple and green. Oh, and guess what? The Lady Banks I asked you about, they just shot up like a rocket and yesterday I saw a cluster of bud for blooms on one of them!!! Three years and nothing and now they look like they are going to do what they are supposed to. I may not move them after all. I hope you have a wonderful Saturday.

Oh Susie, we were in your state Wed. - Fri. It was a mess. It was just as bad when we returned home........so much rain and more coming tomorrow!

What cute little furry visitors!!

Susie said...

Autumn-This a.m. hubbie and I saw Mrs. Bluebird starting to build the nest. I guess he talked her into it but I think she definitely played hardball. hehe!

Sit a Spell-Thanks for the visit. I actually saw a Monarch at work yesterday. I also had a first visit from a hummingbird too. I'm very glad to see that.

Sandy-The flu after pneumonia. Girl, I feel for you. Glad you are better. Bet the warm, spring sunshine will make you much happier. Interesting about your Lady Banks Rose. Plants just have a mind of their own.

Darla-I can't believe you were in MS. Sorry about the weather here and at home.

Linda-Girl they are lots of fun but unfortunately they keep us from doing our work.(or is that fortunately?)

Susie, yes it is a pitcher plant, but I can't for the life of me remember it's latin name. Next time I have to remember to take a photo of the tag also.

Thats what I get for taking photos on my lunch. Everything is too rushed.

How exciting!! Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird are moving in?!?! I am a real bird lover!!

We have a pilliated wood pecker that has been lurking out back and I have been trying to sneak a pic of him to post on my blog. No luck so far.
