Imagine my surprise today when I opened the blue bird house and found these!! We had just cleaned out the old nest a few days ago and now we have a new family. Yippee!!
These are some of the other bird sightings in the yard. I guess these are finches?!?!
And last but not least, these guy seems confused. Not sure what kind of bird this is either but he looked pretty.Hope everyone is finding some pretty birds in your backyard.
That's great news about the blue birds Susie. I still don't have my camera but I did sneak up to the blue bird box. One of the babies peeked out at me and then ducked down real quick - it was so funny! I enjoy all your bird photos.

Susie, how cool that you found a new nest and eggs already! You'll have a new family to watch. I enjoyed seeing your other bird pictures too. That last one looks like it might be a Baltimore Oriole, but I'm not sure. I hope your week is going well. :-)

You are one lucky lady! And you must have a very special birdhouse to have it rented out again so quickly:) I'm curious, too, what kind of bird that is in the last picture; hopefully, someone can identify it.
ReplyDeleteYes Susie, that's a goldfinch! We have them by the dozen, and they never fail to cheer me with that bright yellow color. Just wish they wouldn't tear up my sunflowers!

Hi Susie, You are so lucky to have the birds nesting in your nestbox.. Are the new eggs bluebird eggs? I can't tell by the picture. That was a QUICK turn-around...Wow!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the strangest looking hummingbird I have ever seen.... ha ha.... Can't see the bird very well, but is is an Oriole???? The Orioles love grape jelly and oranges... Don't know if they can get to the sweet nectar.... Funny!!!!!!
Yes, those yellow birds are male Goldfinches...

I LUV the other birdie babies you have too, sweet little Finches and orange/blackie baby!!! I haven't seen anything around our yard yet! Maybe, it won't be long!!!

Love to see birds..pretty orange on that last one. I don't believe any of the Texas Star Hibiscus Germinated, sigh. I have several other Hibiscus up about a foot or so, not sure if one of those are from you or not..My writing faded in the heat, sorry. When they bloom maybe you can tell me.
ReplyDeleteThat was quick for another family to move in and lay eggs already. I think Orioles like sweet things like oranges and that's probably why it's on the hummingbird feeder. You get a lot of colorful birds in your yard.

We've got a blue bird nesting somewhere. I saw her land on top of the gazebo with bugs in her mouth.
ReplyDeleteNot that I know from personal experience, just that I am a bird freak and if I ever did travel I would be making sure to look for birds I've alway wanted to see, but that is an oriole and they drink nectar from feeders a lot like humming bird feeders. But then you have probably figured all that out already as I am late getting around to the "neighborhood". I am digging your birds!

I agree that the last photo is of an oriole. He's not confused, he's just used to using a sugar water feeder (similar to a hummingbird feeder but made specifically for orioles). I have one for them in my yard and once they try it, they love it. I also put out grape jelly for them. If you did either, you'd probably keep seeing them in your yard since they obviously are around.
I know the yellow bird is a goldfinch, we have a lot of them at our bird feeders now and I love to watch them. How exciting for you to have another clutch of eggs to watch and aren't birds in the garden a wonderful blessing? Looks like you have been abundantly blessed with pretty birds.

Well your back yard is just booming with activity! So much fun and the new nest!!! We just found a Robin's nest in our yard with 4 pretty blue eggs in it and the Goldfinches have tripled in # this year. Love the pink flower in your header!!!

I looked at your mystery bird and immediately thought Baltimore Oriole, and see that a lot of other folks did too! I have never seen one in my yard but recognize them from photos. Hope you are enjoying your summer! I've been doing very little blog visiting or writing...just a lot of gardening;-)
