Looking for Color

I was out in the yard today looking for an signs of color but didn't find much. But I have to show you one thing that excited me. Last summer a friend gave me a trillium to plant. I was so happy to have it because it reminds me of all the trilliums in the Smokey mountains.(one of my favorite places to visit).

The other day he came by the nursery and asked me if it had come out. I told him I had not seen it yet.But today, not only had it come back and brought it's sister but it was getting ready to bloom.For me, this is exciting! Love seeing new things bloom. Unfortunately I don't know which variety this is.I also had a few blooms on my Japanese magnolia. As summer ended last year it looked pretty tough. I thought it was on it's way out; but another surprise!And then I also noticed some of my ground phlox blooming. I have two little patches of this plant. I like this one because it's such low maintenance. It's only drawback is it blooms now and then is a little evergreen ground cover for the rest of the year.

With these few blooms and some warmer temps it definitely feels like spring now. Yippee!!!

    I loved seeing the color you found, Susie. Your flowers are really pretty! I think it is exciting when something new blooms too. :)

    We don't have much spring up here either yet, Susie. I love your Trillium---for the same reason you like them. I love seeing Trillium in the Smokies!!!!

    Your phlox are so pretty.. We have some--but it's still asleep!!!!!

    I'd say you have lots of color in your garden, Susie! The trillium is such a dainty beauty, and I'm glad your magnolia is thriving once again. I'm worried about my crabapples after the way they looked last year; I'm crossing my fingers that they'll be in full bloom later this spring.

    I bet you are happy to see some flowers! The trilliums are really pretty, I'd love to try some one day.

    Susie isn't it exciting to find the new blooms in the Spring? I haven't done much in my yard for a few years, but am making up for it this year. I have been working in it for 2 days and haven't even scratched the surface.

    I see some color, so pretty. I agree with you the Smokey mountain are special. You made me remenber over 20 years ago my dad, a farmer originally from Cuba. Our first time there, he stoped the car, got out his eyes teared up and his knees buckeld. We couldn't get him back in the car. I need a vacation!

    Stop looking ~ you found it! Yay! Love the Magnolia. Our Peach trees started blooming a few weeks ago!! Hoping to get some peaches this year - it'll be a first for us!

    Susie, that trillium is beautiful and much more colorful than the trilliums we have blooming all over our woods. When it is fully open is it still such a rich color?

    Yo have a lot of color compared to what we have blooming here.Must be a wonderful sight for the eyes of a gardener looking for spring.

    Trilliums are neat....I'll have to watch my creeping Phlox that is supposed to bloom until frost, if so, I'll let you know it's name..

    Hi Susie. Such a pretty trillium.

    I've never planted creeping phlox for that reason, it has a very short bloom time here. I'm kind of waiting for Darla to let us know if her new phlox does bloom all summer.

    I don't have a book with me, but I do know I have only seen one dark red trillum in the Smokies. It was spring of 2008, went back to try to photograph it in 2009 and could not find it. Very lovely. Wish I had some trillum in my yard. Oh, well.

    Melissa and I went to a flower show here and they had trilliums for $25. We cracked up - there are thousands of them in the woods on the farm - at our next hike, we were counting up our money! :)

    Oh but what pretty color you did find! You know what they say about quality not quantity! I'm so glad that everyone is begining to get at least a little taste of spring, it makes me feel a little less guilty! The varigated foliage on the trilium is a delight in itself, thank you for sharing your treasure!

    I am a huge fan of phlox. They also grow up here "wild" in the spring. Pretty Color!

    What a pretty flower! We're seein lots of yellow here; forsythias and daffs are exploding.

    We've had temps in the 80s here so it's felt more like summer cleaning instead of spring cleaning!

    your Magnolia is absolutely gorgeous. I've never grown one and am not sure if they would survive here.

    Came across your blog posting as I was scrolling at random through the blogspot blogs. We have a variety of trillium up here in New England. (I'm just outside of Boston.) I have been trying in vain to get it to grow in my shady back garden. Well, I went out the other day and I founded one little trillium plant. The only thing that has changed is that we got just over 14 inches of rain in March. It must have changed the acidity level of the soil. It's still early in the growing season. If I can keep the dog from trampling it and the husband from weed whacking it, it might just bloom later this year.

    Ooh I love the bloom on that Trillium. I planted one last spring and I noticed the foliage emerging this week. Hopefully I'll get a bloom soon. :)
