So in conclusion, unless someone out there in blogland can come up with a better answer, I think this is a coreopsis. I'm very happy about that because I have it in two areas in my beds and they are just now starting to bloom.

Yoohoo, Any Clue?
Working at a nursery gives me many opportunities to bring home new or throw-away plants. We have beds planted around in different areas including one out by the street. Not too long ago we decided to clean it out as it had become taken over by weeds. I couldn't help but notice plants that were growing in amongst the weeds. They were going to be thrown out so I dug a couple up and took them home. I knew a couple were phlox and I thought that's what this one was but I have never seen a yellow blooming phlox.
So, who knows what this is? I asked one of the guys and he thought it was some sort of rudbeckia.
Well me not being completely sure of his answer asked someone else today at work. We have a beautiful patch of them blooming right now. He thought it was a type of coreopsis.
Here's a foliage close-up. The buds do look exactly like a coreopsis. A rudbeckia bud has tiny petals that are folded up together which these do not have.

I think it is a coreopsis too, Susie, but I'm not sure. I had those one year a few years back. It is very pretty. I love that bright yellow color. :)
ReplyDeleteThe leaf reminds me of coreopsis. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteCoreopsis, Susie... I think we all agree. It is so pretty. I don't see it often. Love the pretty little yellow flower.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
It looks like my rudbeckia..I have 3 types of coreopsis and it doesn't look like any of them. maybe it is a coreopsis / rudbeckia! It has a nice flower, doesn't it? You will let us know when you find out for sure, won't you?
ReplyDeletehow nice you work in a nursery...no wonder your gardens are so nice....
ReplyDeleteI'll wait and see what the gardening experts tell ya!!
ReplyDeleteI'm scratching my head on this one.
ReplyDeleteDon't know.
It looks like one of the hybrid rudbeckias to me. How tall is it? Rudbeckias can be quite variable.

Sorry, don't know. But like it.

The only thing I know about this flower is that it's pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell it has that Daisy look and so I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteThe leaves remind me of Coreopsis too, but I really don't know. It's pretty whatever it is!
ReplyDeleteHi Susie,
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty! Isn't the Coreopsis our State (MS) Flower or Wildflower? We have lots of the wild variety growing on the roadsides around here.
I immediately thought it was a coreopsis. It's so cheery!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks more like a Rudbeckia to me. But I know there are many varieties of coreopsis, including a wildflower here in Illinois, so perhaps it is one. It's pretty whatever it is, certainly worth rescuing!
ReplyDeleteThe flower does look like coreopsis, but the foliage doesn't--it looks more like Rudbeckia to me. It's pretty whatever it is! I would so be in trouble if I worked at a nursery--my paycheck would come home in pots! ;-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your well deserved win on Blotanical!
Very pretty, no matter what the flower. I do understand wanting to know though.
ReplyDeletewell, gee, I'm no good at identifying stuff,,,, amazing, I just posted a similar request!!!

Coreopsis have become one of my favorites Susie! I bought seeds from the Wildseed Farm and intend to plants several different kinds in spring. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHi Susie - Congrats also from me on your Blotanical Award. My blogging isn't primarily gardening but my wife Kit might qualify. Thanks for visiting Fake Lake at Johnnny's World.
ReplyDeleteNo help from me Susie but love that yellow. Cheers me up for sure!!
ReplyDeleteWell, if it were in FarmVille, I'm sure I could find out what it was, but since I'm not, I have no idea what it is. (smile) Have a grrreat afternoon*! ((hugs)) _Ashley*
